MARTZ, Frances M., of Purcellville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving daughters on Saturday, October 3, 2009 in Midlothian, Va. She was 91 years old. Mrs. Martz, the wife of the late Joseph T. "Buddy" Martz, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Loudoun County from 1951 to 1979, was born on Round Oak Farm in Round Hill, Va., to the late James Arthur and Sarah Howser Miller, and was the third of their seven children. Mrs. Martz is survived by her three daughters, Anne K. Martz of Richmond, Gayle M. Kohlbry of Edina, Minn., and Joyce M. Grier of Midlothian; and sons-in-law, Thomas S. Kohlbry and Frank A. Grier. She was adored by her five grandchildren, Mary MacKenzie Grier, Blair Kohlbry, Caroline Grier, Tom Kohlbry III and Kate Grier. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Ann Poland of Montross, Va., Ruth M. Bell of Purcellville, and Jean M. Goettl of Black River Falls, Wis.; her brother, George A. Miller of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. A lifelong resident of Loudoun County and reader of the Loudoun Times Mirror, Mrs. Martz was retired from the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. While raising her children, she was active in Girl Scouts, 4-H, and the Home Demonstration Club. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Purcellville. The family especially wants to thank the staff and residents of Morningside at Bellegrade in Midlothian for their many years of love and support, the extraordinary staff of Odyssey Healthcare, and Elaine Orcilla, Sierra Moon and Katie Graham for their sweet and tender care. Funeral services will be held at the Old Stone Church at Ebenezer Cemetery, Bloomfield, Va., on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at 11 a.m., with interment immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, friends may support Loudoun County's senior services by contributing to The Carver Center, 200 Willie Palmer Way, Purcellville, Va.
