Frances Kesler Norment

Mrs. Frances Kesler Norment of Lumberton, who most recently resided at Woodhaven nursing facility, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Frances was born in Salisbury, NC on January 8, 1931, to the late Joseph Butner Kesler and the late Pearl Virginia Barnhardt. She grew up in the First Baptist Church and was known for her mischievousness, shyness and playing the piano.

She joined First Presbyterian Church, Lumberton after her marriage to William Douglas Norment (known as "Billy Doug" and later as "Bill") on June 21, 1953.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her older brother, Joseph Butner Kesler, Jr., and her nephew, Joseph Butner Kesler III.

She is survived by three sons, one daughter, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild: children Doug Norment and his wife, Stevie, of Wilmington, NC; Tommy Norment and his wife, Cindy, of Mooresville, NC, son, Nic and his wife, Carly, and son Owen of Virginia Beach, VA; Jamie Norment and his wife, Laura, children Tait and Alice B. of New Bern, NC; and Cammie Norment Drier and her husband, Mike, children Cody and Caitlin of Chesapeake, VA.

Other surviving family members include her brother's descendants and cousins in Kentucky, and sister-in-law Martha J. Kesler of Bowling Green, KY.

Frances and Bill graduated from Catawba College. She met Bill on a cold rainy afternoon in downtown Salisbury.

After college, she moved to Lumberton and became a part of the Norment family. Bill's father, "Bubba", helped make the transition to a new life in a new town and raising a family.

Later in life, Frances cared for her mother-in-law, Vonnie Meshaw Norment, and Bill's aunt, Mary Burton Norment, until their deaths.

Frances was honored with a lifetime achievement in the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a leader in the Women of the Church, Bible Circle, and Sunday School. Also, her friend, Lenore Taylor, presented her a certificate of appreciation signed by Governor Jim Hunt for her volunteer efforts in the community.

Frances enjoyed reading and traveling which inspired some entertaining family stories.

Yes, there are angels among us, and she hopes that her memory will live on in the hearts of those who know her generous spirit. Frances will be missed.

A memorial service to honor France's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8th at Floyd Mortuary, 809 E 5th St, Lumberton.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Operation Fun scholarship at First Presbyterian Church, 1006 North Elm Street, Lumberton.
