NEW YORK (AP) - NBC says Frances Reid, who played matriarch Alice Horton on "Days of Our Lives" for four decades, has died in Los Angeles. She was 95.

The network says Reid died Wednesday.

She was among the original cast of the daytime soap opera, which premiered in 1965. Reid starred opposite Macdonald Carey, who played her husband until his death in 1994.

Her final appearance as a regular was in 2007.

Reid made appearances on episodic TV and other soaps including "As the World Turns." In the 1950s, she performed on anthologies such as "Studio One" and "Philco Television Playhouse" during what is recalled as TV's Golden Age.

Reid received the Daytime Emmys' Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.

She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1914.

So very sorry for the families loss. No one can take away the memories We have her. May she rest in peace, be in a better place and not suffer. This extremely talented actress will surely missed that only by the people at days of our lives But especially , me. I hope I get to live to be her age and when I reach her age that I look as good as her when I reach your age because boy, She didn’t even have one wrinkle.

I grew up watching DOOL. I never knew my grandmother, but I adopted Frances Reid as my grandmother and grieved and have grieved since her loss. She's a beautiful lady and kind and beautiful heart. I love and miss her.

She was wonderful, watched the show with my gram and still today. I love days I watch it everyday

I enjoyed watching her on Days of our lives I know she is being missed

I have watched days from the beginning. Always loved grandma Hortons loving ways and ability to whip up those famous donuts. Christmas time always a treat watching all the special ornaments being hung. Not to forget the fun feisty side grandma had in her. I miss watching Alice Reid and you are not forgotten. Thanks for the memories.

R.I.P. A very fine actress. She will be missed.
