Ifirst met Charlie on Easter 1959 when Helmut and I came to McAdoo to see Ilse, Charlie, Inge and Monica. It was a lovely visit - Inge and I shared a bedroom, Ilse decorated Easter eggs and we all laughed when Monica announced that Charlie (her father ) was playing "chest" with Inge. What I remember from that and subsequent visits was Charlie's good nature and his smile.

However there is one particular moment which I shall never forget. It was Christmas 1960 and Litzi...

I feel very lucky to have you as my Uncle, and even luckier to have you as my Godfather. You were a good and kind person here on earth, and I know you are at peace up in Heaven. My memories of you are from when I was little, but they are all very good memories.

I know your here with me... I feel you giving me that needed push in the right direction. You were and are a great dad. I am so thankful I was able to help you in any way it was such a pleasure being with you these last weeks we were together nonstop and it meant the world to me..
