I joined PARNG, 28th Inf Div as a 2Lt in 1968 upon graduation from OCS. As a young systems engineer for IBM, I was assigned to lead a data processing platoon. We had no equipment, but we became able to do our weekend duty in the computer room managed by LTC Francis Ditzler.

He became an associate, a friend, and a mentor. As a new manager, I had lots to learn. New to the military, I had lots to learn. As a young husband and father, I had lots to learn. As a young adult in the...

A long time friend from the USP&FO he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

We shared being good Lutherans. I always appreciated his devotion to the history of our community. He was kind and generous.

To the Ditzler family, I was fortunate to know the family since 7th grade science and later to work with Francis on the technology plan for the Headquarters PA Army National Guard. Francis was dedicated to every opportunity he had a chance to develop and sustain throughout his military career, Lebanon County Historical Society, church, family and his support of the Lickdale-Greenpoint community. May he rest in peace knowing he was a good soldier to God, community, nation and the family.
