FARNEY, Francis F. (Andy) - Of Flint, age 89, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Father Steve Anderson officiating with a military service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard. Burial in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City, MI. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Andy was born in Hamtramck, MI on July 10, 1922 and was a resident of the Flint area since 1950. He married Ruth A. Hanell in 1945 and she preceded him in death in 1995. Andy served aboard the USS Washington during World War II and was a plank owner of the United States Navy Memorial in Washington DC. He was a life member of VFW #5666 in Flushing and was also a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He was employed by Buick Motor Division 35 years until 1975 and then worked for the Flint Auto Auction for another 35 years. Surviving are daughter, Anna Marie Farney and grandson, Damond (Lisa) Farney, both of Flint; great granddaughters, Cierra and Hailey; brothers, Tom and wife Ellen, Richard and wife Louise; sister-in-law, Lois; several nieces and nephews.
