FRANCIS HOUGHTON

Worldwide Marriage Encounter! In addition to his Parish assignments, Msgr. Houghton was a long-time and devoted priest presenter in the Marriage Encounter community of the Newark Archdiocese. We first met Msgr. Houghton in 1989 and presented more Marriage Encounter weekends with Msgr. Houghton than with any other priest. We considered him "our priest" as I am sure many others did. He holds a special place in the hearts of Marriage Encounter.

Fr. Houghton was an instructor of mine when I was at Holy Trinity High School in Westfield, NJ (1955-59), I can hear his strong and defining voice.....a good man.....a friend.....Jack Riehl

I was saddened to hear of Msgr. Houghton's death. He was a wonderful friend to the Kearney family, especially my late brother-in-law, Father Ed Kearney. He officiated at Ed's funeral and burial and also at Marie Kearney's services. I will be out of state and unable to attend his services but will keep his family in my prayers.

To The Houghton Family, It is with sadness & sympathy that I read of Msgr. Houghton's passing. I first met him back in Nov. of 2010 when I was looking to buy a house in Point Pleasant,NJ. It was a Saturday afternoon around 4:30pm. There was a sign on his front lawn from Diane Turton Realtor house forsale.I called the number on the sign & within 30 minutes Herb Armstrong arrived & introduced me to the Monsignor. Twenty minutes later we agreed to a selling price & I bought his house.Talking...
