Don’t spend too much time mourning. Tears are for the sad. I left to be with Jesus… and this should make you glad!
History reads that on January 25, 1948 a sharp-witted and lively man was born; the monumental birth of FRANCIS MARSHALL JONES occurred; born to the late Edgar and Marie Jones of Avenue, Maryland.
Francis’ years of education included that of the St. Mary’s County Public School systems, graduating from Banneker High School. He worked for many government contractors supporting the Patuxent River Naval Base in the Lexington Park, MD as a Logistics Analyst. Eventually in 2010, Francis retired from BAE Systems.
Francis, affectionately known as “Bones,” enjoyed the simple things in life. He played his daily lottery numbers, gambled at the casinos with his sister Carolyn, and card games with family and friends. Another enjoyment in his life included watching his favorite football team - the Dallas Cowboys. Francis was neat and meticulous. He kept his vehicles clean and he never missed his weekly barber appointment with Eric Baker.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, his beautiful wife of 18 years, Gertrude “Gertie” Jones; and his siblings, James Edgar, Carol and Joan Jones.
Francis leaves to cherish his memories, his loving daughters, Anissa Jones of Avenue, Coretta Jones and A’Lisa Curtis, both of Lexington Park; sons, Juan (Shelly) of Waldorf, and Michael (Kim) Johnson, Sr., of Lexington Park; his siblings, Richard (Theresa), Aloysius “Moe”, Ben (Linda), Carolyn (Robert) Dade, Vivian (Rufus) Lassiter, and Theresa (Lincoln) Edwards; grandchildren, Ashley Dickerson, Jacintah, Mercedez, Rakeem and Corey Jones, Kineshia Somerville, Thomas Barnes, Jr., Ayanna, Samiya, and Michael Johnson, Adaytra Beverly, and Alaya Brooks-Gross; his lifelong friends, Phillip Armstrong and Jimmy Parker; and a host of relatives and friends.
