Barbara and Family--- Deeply sorry to hear of your dear husband and father, Fran. You were the most loving wife, and Fran, a wonderful partner. He was an effective teacher and administrator in the Derry Township School District, and l thought of him as one of the pillars of the school district when l was a young teacher. May the warm memories of your beloved husband and father comfort you in the difficult days ahead! -- Pat Hendershot

In Junior & Senior High School, he left an impression on me; I recall Mr McCarthy being truly a GENTLE man; an unassuming, administrator who always had a sincere smile and soft eyes which radiated a soul of kindness, empathy and selflessness... He exemplified the traits educators should possess. God knows in our country, more than ever, we need more kindhearted people such as this man. Bless his soul.

Francis was my mother´s cousin. Will always remember his beautiful smile! Thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and family

Brenda Bashore Lowthert, One of my favorite teachers and such a nice man! A couple of years ago I accidentally found out that my mother-law grew up with him and they played together as children. When I asked her about it, she said "Oh yes,Francis, he was such a nice boy"! Her name was Jane Burke Lowthert. I loved being in his class and I´ve always had a great respect for him. My husband was from St. Clair and as he got to know Mr. McCarthy just from us seeing him around town, my...

So sad to hear of Mr McCarthy's passing He was a substitute principal at Chambers Hill Elementary when I taught there and he was the BEST! Rest in peace sir Julie Deibler

I had Mr. McCarthy for 6th grade for basically two months when they had the intermediate school in Derry Township. I moved in the beginning of October to a new school. A couple weeks later I got a Halloween card in the mail signed by Mr. McCarthy and all of the students in that class. How thoughtful was that?! I kept that card for many years.

One of the finest teachers ever in Derry Township. Rest in Peace Mr. McCarthy.
