VANPETTEN, Francis D. - Formerly of Flint, age 81, died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Wayne Manor in Wayne, Michigan. Visitation 1-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 1PM Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Dr. J. D. Landis officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, followed by Military Rites. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Alzheimer's Association. Francis was born in Wisconsin on September 24, 1925, the son of the late Chester and Anna (Swenson) VanPetten. He was a resident of the Flint area, before moving to Lakeland, Florida in 1985. Francis spent the last five years in Canton, Michigan. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On April 26, 1947 he married Peggy Butler in Flint and she preceded him in death on July 31, 2001. He was employed with General Motors-Buick Motor Division, retiring in 1976 with 34 years of service. Surviving are son, Randy of Romulus, Michigan; 2 granddaughters, Melissa and husband Joseph Caldwell of Moody AFB, Valdosta, Georgia and Laura VanPetten of Flint; great-grandson, Noah Robert Caldwell; sister, Phyllis Marvin of Flint.
