San Antonio, Texas
Age 81
Frank Alvarez Jr., born on May 3, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas, passed away at age 81 on November 25, 2018 after a valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease. He told his children, "I am not just going to give up!"
Frank chose to serve his country through the Air National Guard in his youth. He later again chose to serve his community by working toward poverty alleviation. His years with Barrio Betterment and Development assisted many children and families in underserved areas of San Antonio. He was also in Broadcast Media having a popular talk show on Radio KUKA for many years. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended San Antonio College and Our Lady of the Lake University.
He enjoyed playing guitar, dancing, fishing and reading. His high intellect led to enlightening discussions on many topics including history, geography and the bible. His funny and friendly demeanor led to many great memories for his family and later for nurses and doctors.
He was the son of the late Janie Garcia Alvarez and the late Frank Alvarez Sr. Frank's spouse and the mother of his children was the late Mary Benavides Alvarez. Later, he was blessed to be married to the late Mary Jo Herbel. He was preceded in death by his sons, Adrian A Alvarez and Michael A Alvarez. Frank is survived by his son, John Alvarez; daughters, Susan Alvarez Stephenson and Cyndi Alvarez; sister, Tillie Blount. His grandchildren include, Jeremy Guerrero, Joshua Guerrero, Christina K Alvarez, Justin Stephenson, Aaron Alvarez, David Alvarez, Derek Alvarez, Mariah Bell, Lexxi Mallinson, Thomas Jacob Rocha and Bethany Alvarez. His great grandson Adrian Alexander Alvarez, great granddaughters, Anna Bell and Maddie Guerrero never failed to bring a smile to his face and a few dance steps around the room (to Flaco Jimenez.)
Thank you to the extended family of Prayer Warriors that kept Frank and his family company during his journey.
Friends and family can pay their respects at the Rosary service on Saturday, December 8 from 11:00 to noon at St Paul Catholic Church, 350 Sutton Dr, San Antonio, TX 78228.
