Frank's sister Agnes,and I traveled to the Florida National Cemetery on Jan 26,carrying the cremains of Frank for interment.A simple.short rite took place for the entombment located in a very attractive part of the cemetery.A scene of peace and quiet pervades the entire area,enhancing the hope for an eternity of peace and comfort for all who have gone before.This location is one of the more desireable resting places for our nation's veterans;experiencing as many as 60 funerals per day,or...

Frank Benko was a well known friend of mine;kind,considerate,caring sort of a person that always made you feel welcome.His generosity was a major factor in everything he did,giving of his time, talent and financial aid.His assistance to me at my time of need proved to be crucial to my successful recovery from the loss of my husband and son.He will be long remembered.

Frank was much more than a one day obituary statistic;he was a life member of American Legion Post 16,Hammond,In.As a member of the 866th aviation engineers construction battalion,he helped build airfields in the South Pacific during WW II.Awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat,he attained the rank of Sergeant.He worked as a machine shop supervisor for Pullman-Standard freight car division for 35 years,retiring to Florida in 1978 to follow his passion for fishing and golf.As a...
