Frank Fasi

Obituary

HONOLULU (AP) - Frank Fasi, who served as Honolulu mayor for 22 years and ran unsuccessfully for Hawaii governor five times, has died at home. He was 89.

Fasi's son, David, issued an e-mail saying his father died peacefully of natural causes late Wednesday night surrounded by his wife and children.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann issued a statement saying he was "heartbroken over the passing of a true legend in island politics."

A Democrat most of his career, Fasi also ran as a Republican and as an independent when it suited his purposes.

Fasi was mayor from 1968 until 1980 and then again in 1984-94. His last run for statewide office came in 1998, when he lost the Republican gubernatorial primary.

Brother-in-Law Frank:
Give Charlie, Paul and Connie a big KISS for me. I love and miss all of you but am glad that you're all together now.

I remember all the good things he did and seeing him drive his colorful Mayors Bus (VW Van) around Honolulu. Rest in Peace Sir, you will surely be missed.

Aloha Francisco, There never will be another like you. The Don Quixote of Hawaii. Tough as nails, sharp as a tack. Every one will miss you. Enjoyed our many discussions at coffee each morning. Mahalo for all you have done. Your Pal, Jack Sullivan

My deepest condolences to Joyce and the children...few contributors to the
colorful story of Hawaii in modern times come close to the excitement,
love and sheer joy of serving the
good folks of Honolulu as Frank. He
gave Hawaii his full measure and
is indelibly etched in island history
as a relentless sunshine warrior who
made us all a little bit better just
by knowing him.
Aloha ahui hou,Frank,

Frank'

My condolences to the Fasi family. I will always remember his passion as Mayor. God be with you all at this time of sorrow.

To the Family of Frank Fasi,

I would like to express my deep sorrow for the loss of your dear loved one.I found the following thought at Psalms 34:18 to be of great comfort. It reads "God is near to those that are broken at heart, and those who are crushed in spirit he saves".

I hope this scripture bring the family and friends a measure of peace.
