Frank W. Ikle

Dr. Ikle was a superb teacher of Asian history and I was lucky to be one of his students.

Frank was Chairman of the History Department when I was hired in 1969. Over the years I came to know him as a fine colleague, erudite, witty and wise. His observations about life and learning were always valuable. I always regret that he did not stay on to teach longer than he did, but I realize that he enjoyed his retirement enormously since it let him study and think without the burden of grading papers and contending with department business. We express our condolences to Frank's entire family.....We first met Frank & Maurine when we came to LaLuz as second residence in early 2006. They were very kind and welcomed us.
Frank's character and grace were very apparent; we continued to see each other as neighbors briefly over the next nine years.
We will remember him well and are grateful for the blessing of knowing him.
