Frank Liu Obituary

Frank Liu, Jr.
1987-2022
Frank Liu, Jr. passed away on Saturday, the 1st of January 2022. He was 34 years of age.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Cindy Liu; his brother, Kirby Liu; and his grandmother, Wen Liu, with whom he shared a love for sushi.
Born in Houston on the 17th of October 1987, in the Year of the Rabbit, Frank was blessed with an affable and charismatic personality that brought luck and laughter to the wide circle of friends that surrounded him his whole life.
Frank was a diligent student and brilliant intellectual, graduating from St. John's School where he excelled in basketball, music, and mathematics. He was a fearless point guard, ascending to the starting lineup of St. John's varsity team as a sophomore. He was also a beloved lead guitarist and front man for his high school band. After graduation, he went on to the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business where he received his bachelor degree in business.
Widely admired for his diverse talents, Frank combined his intellectual gifts, creativity and love for Houston to affect groundbreaking change in the city. Indeed, throughout his professional career, he strove to elevate Houston's creative community and, in particular, Houston's music scene. As a Project Leader at his family's real estate company, the Lovett Group, he played a critical role in major developments. His work in organizing the Day for Night Music Festival set the creative trajectory for the development of POST Houston, the transformation of the downtown USPS headquarters into a cultural campus. His talent in bringing the right creative minds together seeded the development of the 713 Music Hall in which he made his dreams for a world class concert hall in Houston a reality. Frank was a builder of music studios, creative spaces, communities, and events.
Frank's own musical abilities were peerless. From the moment he was given his first guitar at the age of 14, he spent countless hours mastering the instrument, writing songs, and producing music in a variety of genres and mediums. He headlined shows in Houston, Austin and Los Angeles, and opened for major acts at some of the top venues in the country. In addition to being a creative visionary and a talented musician, Frank was also an inventor and founder, holding four patents, one of which is currently being developed into a pioneering organizational management tool called Tasktag.
But perhaps Frank's greatest gift was his magnanimity, his belief in humanity's infinite potential, his ability to elevate the spirit of everyone around him – in short, his gift of grace. He brought out the best in people with words of encouragement and insightful observations. And his humility and loving sincerity gave him the ability to form deeply meaningful friendships with people from every background. A passionate caretaker of animals, Frank had a profound respect for the miracle of life. He made us laugh, he made us cry, and he made us love each other. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of people he touched and the city he loved.
A memorial service and celebration of Frank's life will be held at four o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 8th of January, on the Skylawn of The Post, 401 Franklin Street, followed by a reception.
KINDLY NOTE: Those who are unable to attend may join the livestream whose link will be available in the service information block on his page at GeoHLewis.com. The service will be uploaded to that same link for viewing later by those who are not able to view live.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a gathering and sharing of remembrances from ten o'clock in the morning until twelve o'clock noon on Sunday, the 9th of January, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

I was so sad to hear about Frank today. He had such a big spirit and wonderful sense of humor. He showed me great kindness and even tried to teach me guitar. I will never forget him.

We can't imagine your grief. We have a 34 year old son. We visited POST Houston over the Christmas holidays and had the good fortune to hear a string quartet there playing music from The Nutcracker. It was beautiful. Your son was a visionary.
