Nov 7, 1938 – Jun 5, 2021 (Age 82)
Lo, Frank Ming Chui, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his adoring family, on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the age of 82.
Frank was born in China's Zhejiang province on November 7, 1938 of the lunar calendar. He grew up at the height of the war with Japan and World War II in which he had happy childhood memories mixed with recollections of fleeing to safety and turmoil. His family fled the civil war and Communism in the mainland to build a life in Taiwan at the age of 10. Years later, he attended Dong Wu University to study law followed by a year fulfilling his military service requirement. That experience serving on the frontlines would bring him pride until his last days. He then went to work at the University of Wen Hua where he met Grace Shih Jen Yin and instantly fell in love. He would tell many that for him, it was truly love at first sight. They married and later moved to the United States to seek exciting opportunities and build a new life together in a land that cherished democracy, freedom, and an idealistic embrace of immigrants.
Frank's incredible discipline and work ethic brought the family through challenging times and he emerged with a new degree and career as a computer specialist. He would work for Nixdorf, Meritz, and later Citicorp, where he would serve for over 25 years. Both of his children, John and Janet, were born in St. Louis where they planted their roots before branching out to live in both coasts, Europe, and the South. The education and success of his children were paramount, and he was so proud of their many accomplishments. He always had a giant smile for them and his blessed grandchildren.
He retired in 2008 and it was then that life took on new meaning as he and Grace would dote on their five grandchildren and travel the world, making many trips across Europe and Asia including Italy, France, China, Croatia, and Switzerland and spent time vacationing with their children and grandchildren in Hilton Head Island and Napa Valley.
Frank is survived by his wife, Grace Shih Jen Yin Lo, his two children John and Janet, and their spouses, Erin Lo and Lucas Elijovich. Frank was Yie Yie and Gong Gong to his adoring grandchildren, Jonah Yuan Ren Elijovich, Anna Yuan Jia Lo, Jane Yuan Hua Lo, Viviana Yuan Ji Elijovich, and Peter Yuan Qin Lo; and brother to Emily (James) Chen and Jim (Wen Lin) Lo. He was preceded in death by his parents Yuin Mei Wei and Tien Shium Lo. He was such a dear friend, uncle, cousin and a comfort and gracious support to so many close friends and family.
Frank demonstrated throughout his life that nothing meant more than family. He was a loving and devoted husband who often spoke about his wife with the same twinkle in his eye from the days they first met. This year was their 50th wedding anniversary. He also cared deeply about serving his community and celebrating his rich Chinese heritage.
Services: In keeping with Frank's wishes, a family celebration of life will be held on June 20, 2021, Father's Day. If desired, contributions can be made in his honor to the Women's Connection Network's scholarship fund in St. Louis, a program he and Grace have long supported; or to the International Institute of St Louis, an organization that supports refugees. Frank's family appreciates all the love and support everyone has shown during this difficult time. A service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

Dear Frank,
We will miss your big smile, and warm friendship, but will vividly remember your green thumb for growing beautiful orchids and your enthusiastic smiling and waving when we saw each other on our early morning walk in the Chesterfield mall.
Now you are out of our sight, but our friendship will last forever and you will never be out of our mind.

Your spirit is still so palpably felt by us -- your ever-present smile and your enlivening passions about everything: politics, social justice, cultural issues, good foods, a glass of vibrant red wine, and, of course, your beloved family. Though we know you have passed on in our mind, in our heart, we are still looking forward to that dinner date we had promised each other but was so cruelly delayed by the pandemic. Here from Portland, we raise our glass to you --to your wonderfully well...
