In first year law school we were seated alphabetically. Macch... Mach... . Frank and I sat next to each other all that first year. Frank's professional achievements have been fully described in obituaries. His achievements were outstanding. They made us all proud. Perhaps lost in those obituaries was Frank's rarest of attributes. In 72 years I have never met anyone more congenial, more decent, more honorable. Frank was the best thing that ever happened to the NYC public school system. He had a tremendous vision and the courage to see it through. He understood standards and accountability. He was truly a great man and a great leader. I was immensely proud to have been one his principals. My deepest condolences to his family.
