McDERMOTT, Mr. Frank D., who was born May 4, died peacefully December 27, 2012. He is survived by his son, Frank D. McDermott Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Laura Hartman McDermott; and two grandchildren, Joshua H. McDermott and Sarah H. McDermott. His wife, Florence Becker McDermott, died in 1989. He is also survived by his good friend and companion, Mrs. Ima Britting; and by his good friends and neighbors, Richard and Roseann McMillan, and their family. Mr. McDermott was born and raised on Long Island, N. Y. He attended Clarkson Institute of Technology in upstate New York. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va., during
WWll as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theatre, as a combat engineer rising to the rank of captain. After the war, he worked in the mining industry in West Virginia, before joining the DuPont company in 1950. Mr. McDermott worked for DuPont as an engineer in the construction division of the engineering department for 32 years, before retiring in 1982. He spent his retirement in Midlothian, Va. He was an active member and elder of Salisbury Presbyterian Church, in Midlothian.
