Franklin Robbins Obituary

Franklin Dale Robbins
1922 ~ 2012
Franklin Dale Robbins, our loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather completed this earthly mission and returned home to the loving and comforting arms of our Heavenly Father and his loving wife Helen, on September 6, 2012 at the age of 90. Dad lived life with conviction and strength. He was born September 4, 1922 in Huntington, Utah to Frank and Katie Mathie Robbins. He married his loving sweetheart and wife, Helen Stokes Robbins. from Cleveland, Utah on September 2, 1944 at Camp Houze, Texas, two weeks prior to leaving for the European Theaters of Operations during World War II. During the War, he was in the Army where he obtained the Rank of Staff Sergeant. His primary duty was that of an Army Lead Scout for which he received numerous medals for his bravery and valiant service to our country. He performed this assignment in France, Austria, Belgium, Italy and Germany until being Honorably Discharged on November 11, 1945. Upon his return from the war, our mother and father were sealed together in the Manti Temple. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Dad had a love for education and began school at Huntington Elementary in 1928 and graduated from North Emery High School in 1940. He continued his education at Utah State University before leaving for World War II. After the War, Dad finished his Bachelor and Masters Degrees, and obtained his Secondary Teaching, Secondary Administrators and Elementary Supervisors Certificates. Early in his teaching career, Dad coached basketball and football in Moreland, Idaho, where his teams were State Champions. Eventually he returned to his beloved home of Huntington where he coached the high school basketball team at North Emery High, taught math and geography, and was a Guidance Counselor. Dad retired from teaching in 1957 and began working for the Utah Education Association as the Manager of the Horace Mann Insurance Company for Utah, where he led the nation in sales production several years running. He retired from Horace Mann after 29 years of service and became a Financial Planning Consultant for the Utah State Retirement System. Dad finally retired in 2000 at the age of 78.
Dad had a love for sports and the life lessons it provided. He was an avid University of Utah fan and would watch any sport in which the "Utes" participated in. He played tennis while at Utah State and loved traveling around watching his sons play tennis. He was the President of the Utah Tennis Association and the Intermountain Tennis Association for several years. He took an interest in everything his children and grand-children did. He was very proud of his family which included four children, 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Dad is loved, cherished and honored by his family and his children: Carol Van Horn (Howard), Sandy, Utah; F.D. Robbins (Shelley), Taylorsville, Utah; Jim Robbins (Lindy), Centerville, Utah; Jeff Robbins (Jalane) Salt Lake City, Utah. Dad was preceded in death by his father and mother; wife; and sister, Verna Axelgard.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Holladay Stake Center, 4395 South Albright Drive (2145 East). Viewings will be at the Holladay Stake Center prior to the service from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. and on Friday, September 14, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mathew C. Hansen, for his compassionate concern, and excellent care given to our father. You will never know how much our father looked forward to his appointments.

My Dear Uncle Dale,
What a great person you were and are to me. Your sense of humor, how you LOVED to tease people. Your sister, my mom, would react every time, so funny. I remember the story you told so many times about Grandpa knocking on your door at the very earliest of hours and letting you know it was time to go to work. You expressed that "sometimes" it was not what you had in mind.
Every time I visited from California you asked when I was going to move back to Utah or what you called home. You had so many wonderful ideas for me, and I would always say, yea pretty soon, but right now I like what I am doing.
The effect you had on the human race was only spoiled by so many people never getting a chance to meet you and be around you. I smile and shed tears as I am writting this, but I know that I will one day again get to be with all those people, including you that made my life so very much worth living. I would have really liked to have observed look look on my mothers face when you two got together again. So many emotions scream out at the thought of that situation.
You set such a wonderful example for those of us who were lucky enough to know you. I love you, we love you and we carry the wisdom you shared with us throughout our lives and pass on the the next genration or generations. Thanks Uncle Dale for all that you were and are.

Love C.T.

As a teenager, I enjoyed getting to know Mr. Robbins through his sons, whom he steadfastly supported as exceptional tennis athletes and in all other ways. Thinking about him brings back great memories. Best wishes and condolences to the Robbins family.
