Andrews Mortuary and Crematory - Market Street Chapel - Wilmington Obituary

Franklin Seabrook Skinner, lovingly known as Frank, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 80.

Son of James O. Skinner III and Julie Skinner, Frank was born on December 18th, 1944, in Charleston, SC. He grew up on James Island alongside his brothers, Jimmy and Joe. A man of the sea and a master of his trades, he worked as a tugboat captain, marine surveyor, and skilled carpenter. For Frank, his work was more than just a job - it was a reflection of his deep respect for the water and for craftsmanship. Whether guiding vessels through the harbor or building with his hands, he approached every task with care, integrity, and pride.

Frank was a devoted husband to his wife, Nell Skinner of 53 years and a loving father to his daughters Amy Skinner, Josephine Skinner, and Anna Skinner (Rick Smith). He was also a proud grandfather to Olivia and Grayson, who brought him immense joy and pride.

He will be remembered for his vast knowledge, one-of-a-kind skills, and storytelling. Frank’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the things he built and the waters he called home.

The family will be accepting friends and family at Andrew’s Mortuary, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, NC Saturday from 9:30-10:30am with burial services following at 11am at Oakdale Cemetery.

Not sure what to say?

I had many happy days with Frank and his family, from his grandparents, Mr. Franklin, his namesake, mama, mom, Miss Julie, Jimmy, Joe and Frank.
All will be missed.

My parents & I moved to Secessionville next door to the Seabrook family from Charleston the summer of 1957. It was then I met Frank. Over the next few years, he introduced me to the wonders of country life. The creeks, marsh, Morris Island, & the small woodworking space under his home became my second home.
I will always fondly remember Frank for his patience teachings this city boy the absolute wonders of all the wildlife, of creek living, how to read the tides, & how to be very...

Praying for the family l never met any of you but I worked with Frank in the late 60’s in Charleston spent time at family home and attended church with him , loved his mother and grandmother and as I am sure he told you his dad was something else , so sorry I lost track with him my time in the army and him moving but always remembered our working together again so sorry for your loss my GOD touch each of you and give you peace .

My thoughts and prayers for you Frank and your family, Nell, Amy, Anna, Josie, and Anna.

You’ll be greatly missed by friends and family.
