Not sure what to say?

Fred was a friend and mentor who contributed mightily to my education as a venture capitalist. We worked together on a number of companies, none more important than the transformation of the failing Bethesda Research Laboratories into the strategically significant Life Technologies (see my book, Doing Capitalism (2nd ed., pp. 56ff). Fred understood the cash dynamics of a business better than anyone else I have ever known.

Group of 10 Memorial Trees

I remember Fred as the Chairman of the Budget Subcommittee at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I was the VP Finance. Fred was the smartest person I knew and provided guidance to solve the most difficult problems which we faced during his relationship with MSKCC. He had a warm personality and was a mentor to me.

I had memory fond memories of Fred, as a frequent family guest. He always gave me sage advice. He was a character and could be irascible but he was the last of a breed, much admired and greatly missed. We had many wonderful times together. My deepest condolences to Catherine and all of the family.

Single Memorial Tree

I was deeply saddened to hear of Fred's passing. I was honored and privileged to get to know him while he told me his life story when I was writing his memoir. He was a fascinating man who led an incredible life. Rest in peace, Fred.

My deepest condolences. Your cousin Susan
