Not sure what to say?

Just returned to the office and saw the notice of Twig's death. Very sad news. I saw him in London in March 2004 (first time since Law School) and he seemed great. I met Twig on a hot, muggy day in the summer of 1980, when we were both in C'ville looking for a place to live. Seems like a long time ago. It was impossible not to like him -- friendly, open, funny, skeptical, balanced.

My wife and I became acquainted with Twig when he was a classmate of our son, Tony, in the University of Virginia Law School, and got to know him better when he stayed with us for a few days. We shared a common interest in jazz and visited the jazz clubs with him when we were in New York. One special occasion was when we dined with Twig,Charlotte, and their delightful children in their condominium.
There were many things about Twig we enjoyed, perhaps most of all his quiet but telling...

I last saw Twig at the Pem Day 25th reunion and he still looked as if he just graduated from high school. We were 40 then. I remember him as a totally nice guy with a good sense of humor.

We are deeply saddened that Fred was not able to have the rich, full and long life with Charlotte and their children which all truly deserved. Sam and I wish we had been able to come to the services.

With our deep affection.

I was extremely saddened to learn of Twig's passing. He and I were Pem-Day classmates. Although I had not seen him in many years, I still remember him with great fondness. He was a rare individual--accomplished, but also a genuinely good person. I can only express my deepest sympathy to his family.

The world will be much emptier without Twig's dry wit and easy-going Kansas charm. He was a great human being. My condolences and sympathy to his family.

I also am very saddened to learn of Twig's passing. I regret that I was unaware of his illness. I was a law school classmate of Twig and we both worked briefly for the same law firm (LeBoeuf Lamb), although I was in Washington, DC and he was in New York City. I remember Twig well for his laid-back manner and calm personality in a sea of Type A persons in law school. I also remember he lived in the coolest residence -- a renovated barn -- in his first year at law school. Twig will be...

Twig was a friend and classmate of mine at UVA Law School. He was a warm, gentle, kind person, with a great wit. I am deeply saddened to learn of his long illness and untimely death. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Charlotte and family:

I got to know Twig at UVA. I am also a Kansan and it was great to meet a fellow fan of the Royals, Chiefs, fried chicken and BBQ! Twig always had an upbeat and positive air about him and I can see his smile even today. I share a sense of your loss, although cannot imagine it quite as deeply as I'm sure the family feels it. The UVA Law Class of 1983 was blessed by Twig's membership, as I am sure everyone else was whom he touched. I hope your many grand...
