I have only been a friend with Jim the past ten years since I moved to Portland. We shared many dinners out when our wives had a regular gettogethers. We also visited them during their San Juan adventure. My experience agrees with the obit evaluation but I would add that he had amazing courage to in addressing his health problems. I will also miss him but in a very different way than those who were in his life for a very long time. They have my sympathy for their loss.
