Fred Douglas McGee

Funeral services was held on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Shawn Lea Funeral Home, 515 East 12th Street, Scotland Neck, North Carolina. A public Visitation was on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.  Arrangements were handled by Shawn Lea Funeral Home of Scotland Neck, North Carolina . 

Fred Douglas McGee was the 9th of 12 children born to James Edward McGee and Lillie Mae McGee on July 30, 1944 in Halifax, NC. He was education in the Halifax County School System. Fred later migrated north, first to Baltimore, MD and then he made New York City his home, living between Harlem and then the Bronx.

Fred took on the title for himself, “The Last of the Magnificent Seven”. This was his badge of honor as the last of seven McGee Sons. Fred was a people’s person who LOVED to talk and tell all kinds of stories. He had a great sense of humor and would keep you laughing anytime you were in his presence. It never matter what the occasion was, Fred was going to make you laugh. He loved to talk trash to any and everybody.

Fred is proceeded in death by his parents, James & Lillie McGee, Sisters, Mae Gertha Frances, Mary Betty Mallory & Barbara Annette Savage; His brothers, William Henry McGee, Robert Lee McGee, James Richard McGee, Sr., Norman Russell McGee, Pearli Heyward McGee & Samuel Lewis McGee.

He leaves to cherish memories: Two sisters, Ertie Florence Foreman of New York City, and Lillie Marie Johnson (Richard) of Tillery, NC.; One Sister-In-Law, Naomi McGee; 16 Nieces, Betty McGee, Bonnie McGee Williams, Brenda Kaye Foreman, Sandra Frances, Bridget Walters, Gloria Savage, Mary Ann Hale, Sharon Dewberry, Linda Arrington, Linda Pierce, Sharonda M. Savage, Tammy Johnson, Sonya Pittman, Deborah Solomon, Darlene Alston & Catherine Johnson; 8 Nephews, James R. McGee, Gary L. Foreman, Rodney L. McGee, Lindwood E. McGee, Calvin McGee, Tommy E. Hill, Andre L. Foreman, and Willie L. Savage, Jr.; A host of great nieces and great nephews; great great nieces and great great nephews; cousins, other family and friends.
