Fred Mound Obituary

April 10, 1932 - January 27, 2017 Fred Mound embodied the phrase "A life well lived and well loved." He was the person we all wanted to be when we grew up. He was kind and thoughtful, he was a man of faith, he loved a good round of golf, he particularly loved his St. Louis Cardinals, but most of all he loved his family. On January 27th he left this world, not because he was ready, but because Christ was ready and called him home to heaven. He would want the world to know how much he adored Fanny Belle, his wife of 62 years, and how much he cherished his children: Carol (husband: David Land), Kim (husband: Steve Pierce), and Fred Mound. He was a proud Granddad to: John Land, Sam Pierce (wife: Lauren), Eli Pierce (fiancee: Lorna Porter), Tyre Pierce, Isabelle Pierce, Johnathan Mound, and Katharine Mound. Born in St. Louis, MO on April 10, 1932 to Nellie and Charles Mound, young Fred was put to work at the family owned Park Theatre in 1946 and thus began an illustrious career in the motion picture industry that would span over 5 decades. Fred continued his association with the family business until he was hired as a booker by Universal Pictures in 1952. After a one year stint, he was lured away by United Artists with the promise of a $10 a week raise. He would spend the next 25 years rising through the ranks of United Artists, taking his young family with him, as he criss-crossed the Mid-West and South. Ultimately, in 1976 he was promoted to Vice President/Assistant General Sales Manager for United Artists, which required a move to New York City. In November of 1978 he accepted a position with A.F.D. Pictures as Vice President/General Sales Manager in Los Angeles, CA. His career came full circle in 1981 when he returned to Universal as Vice President/Assistant General Sales Manager. In 1990 he was named President of Universal Distribution, a position he would hold until his retirement. As friends and family would often note, "He's kind of a big deal." There will be a celebration of Fred's life Thursday, February 9th at 4 o'clock at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Boulevard, Dallas, 75205. Our family wishes to thank everyone for the love and kindness shown to us during this very difficult time. Our dad will be missed, he was loved more than words can ever express. He was truly a 'big deal' in our lives. We rest easier knowing the Lord called him home and he is now seeing Jesus face-to-face. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Will Rogers Motion Picture Foundation, the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, or The Burbank Public Library.

We heard about how special and important Fred was every time Fannie Belle played bridge with our family. It was fun previewing films before the awards and we owe that experience to Fred and Fannie Belle. He's gone but his legacy is not forgotten. He was "kind of a big deal" as his family described him. Fannie Belle told classic stories about their travels to share new films with theater owners in the southwest. Every weekend Fannie and Fred would supply the theater owners with one feature film and one cowboy movie, of course! Fannie Belle was so dedicated and sweet; she and Fred moved to be closer to family. She had a long love affair with her great husband. We should all have that luck. We all miss her, though, especially Nancy. Great husbands and Good friends will always be remembered. Thanks to both for setting such a great example of faith.

Fred Sr. and Fannie Belle were there for me and my family during a challenging time in my life. They made my mother and father who were worried sick about my well being, feel welcomed and like family. Fred and his son embody what it means to be men of God. I am blessed to have known Fred Sr. and pray God's Blessings upon him and his family.

My Sincere condolences to Fred's immediate. family,, extended family and to all who respected and admired Fred.. Fred was my older cousin, my dad and his mother were brother and sister. So our family was fortunate enough to spend the weekend at the house on Fern Ridge on occasion, so many wonderful memories. Fred was eight years senior to me, he was always pleasant. To, be with. Sometime I would be lucky enough to ride with him to transfer movies from one theater to the other. I found that to be a privilege. He always teased and asked if I were going to be a movie star..I am so sorry for your great loss, my prayers are with you at this time,

Fred was an all-around guy who lived life at its fullest, guided by his faith and by the wonder who is Fanny Belle. Solid but with strong sense of humor! Respected by all who dealt with him, in an industry where that doesn't happen often. A giant in so many ways.

Truly wish I could be there for the services, Uncle Fred and Aunt Fannybelle have always been the sweetest and most loving people I have ever known. I've always loved hearing the stories that included your walk with fame, and have often bragged of that "Famous Uncle in Hollywood." Truly a blessing to be your neice. Fannybelle, you are one lucky lady to have spent 62 years with this wonderful man, you will be in my heart and prayers. Much love and hugs to all of the family.

Fanny Belle, Carol, Kim, Freddie....I, too, loved him. He was always so kind, generous, and pleasant to me and everyone I ever saw him with. Not that I didn't occasionally see some strong discipline issued, but it was always done to protect & love you all. In my observations, he was a great husband, father, and friend. I really want to get in touch with you, Fanny Belle. I am so grateful that you, Kim, have been so faithful to send me your annual Christmas updates. Carol & "Freddie", I haven't seen you in years, but I haven't forgotten you! The Mound family was huge to me when you lived on Northaven and you will always have a huge place in my heart. Kim, since you have my address, would you send me some phone numbers and/or email addresses so I could call? I still like to hear voices of my friends & loved ones, but, I have also, reluctantly, joined the world of texting and I'm very good at it - just so my grands will still communicate with me! I love the Mounds, one and all, and will be lifting you up in prayer.
