Fred H. Priddy, 82, of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday March 31, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:30 PM at Beard Mortuary with Rev. David Childress and Rev. Jarrold Lanham officiating. Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. He was born January 27, 1921 the only son of the late Manie Steinbrecher Priddy. He graduated from H.E.H.S. in 1941 where he became the school’s first Drum Major. Soon after high school he joined the USMC, where her served with their Military Police Unit. In 1945 he joined the Huntington Police Department. He served as a motorcycle patrolman until being injured in the line duty. While recuperating from his injuries he met and married his wife of 50 years, Edith “Jewell” Franklin Priddy originally from Catlettsburg, KY. He spent his remaining years with the department as a patrolman until his retirement in 1968. After serving 23 years with the police force, he continued his work in the legal system serving as a Magistrate from 1968-1986. Active in his community, Fred served as past president of the HEHS Booster Club and Emmons Elementary PTA. He also participated as an umpire for INCO Twilight League and Little League #5 where he also served as president of the league. He was active in several organizations. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16, the FOP and “ole Centurian. He was a member of the Fourth Avenue Methodist Church. In addition to his wife Jewell, Fred is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Lou Ann Priddy of Barboursville, WV, Mark Priddy of Huntington, and John and Connie Priddy of Barboursville, a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Winston Munro of Huntington, four special grandchildren, Samantha Priddy, Garrett Priddy, and Connor and Corey Munro, two step-grandchildren, Danielle Adkins and Jamie Wilcox and one step great grandchild, Micha. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions to, the Big Green Athletic Dept., Pallentine Sisters Retirement Fund, 2900 1st Avenue, Huntington, WV 25702 or the My Friends House CCCSO, 724 10th Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701. Condolences may be extended to the family @www.beardfuneralhome.com. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00-9:00 PM at Beard Mortuary.

I got to know Fred when I served on the Huntington Police Department. I'll remember him as a person who always had a "hello" and a smile. My thoughts and prayers are with the Priddy family in their time of loss.
