Fred, Freddie, Sonny, Uncle Grumbles, Grumbly...however he was known to you, we all knew Fred Pucci was an extra special human being. After starting out his late teens honorably serving in WWII, he returned home and began his young adulthood as a blue collar worker, moving steadily "up the ladder" and achieving the "American Dream".
Success did not change Fred. He remained a loyal, loving and caring son to his parents, husband to Alice, Dad to Mary, brother to his siblings and Uncle to his nieces, nephews and "assorted" young relatives and non-relatives alike. To all of us, Fred was always available when needed for advice or moral support. His financial help was more than generous and without conditions. I hope he knew how very much it was all appreciated.
When Phil and I visited Conn., Fred was most often our companion traveler, especially during his so-called "retirement" years, taking us to wonderful restaurants to eat lobster, fried clams, Polish and German food and, of course, Friendly ice cream sundaes. And, believe it or not, he didn't grumble "that much" as we dragged him through museums and historic homes and sites, even though he couldn't quite see the use of it! Thanks, Fred. I know it was miserably hot that day at the Nathan Hale Schoolhouse. The boat ride on the Conn. River later that day was a much needed relief.
Fred would surely not want to be portrayed as saintly, although he was a most devout practicing Catholic all his life. He shared the same human frailties and shortcomings we all do. It can be honestly said, however, that throughout his life, both professional and personal, he never was mean-spirited, dishonest or greedy. Fred endured his share of trials and tribulations but he forged ahead in spite of them - right up to the end. He had depth and courage and surely met his God with a clear conscience. You did it right, Fred.
postscript: Reading this, Fred would no doubt say, "Yah, yah, yah. Is she ever going to quit yaking"? LOL

Mary,
I have this feeling there's one more star up in the sky tonight. And even though it's far away, its brightness and warmth still reach us here to make the night a little less dark.
May all the wonderful memories you've shared with your Dad help you through this sad time.
With My Deepest Sympathy

I didn't get to see Uncle Fred that often, but I do remember the few times I did. I remember when I was little he was visiting at Badger and Pa's house and was watching football. I, however, wanted to watch my favorite movie, Meet Me in St. Louis. I kept flipping back between my movie and the football game and Uncle Fred got very frustrated with me. I suppose that's due to the fact that his nickname was Uncle Grumbles.
The last time I saw Uncle Fred was when he visited in April 2006 and got to come to my spring choir concert for school. He never lost his sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
I love you, Uncle Fred. You lived a very honorable and fulfilling life.

Sarsaparilla, Noni's Fried Dough, cribbage and "take your life into your hands" boat rides on the lake (yup - got thrown out once!!!) memories of summers at the Lake. Freddie was a generous and loving man and I was proud he let me call him Uncle. Tom and I loved him very much.

Mary, We had the privilege of knowing and enjoying the friendship of your Dad at the Doyen reunions. He was a great person and will be missed. He was dissapointed when he couldn't come last year but we were hoping that he could have been with us this year. He was a caring man too as he told me about having dinner all those years with your Mom in the nursing home.

Mary & Family,
I loved Uncle Fred's visits to CA! He had the greatest stories to tell. I'm forever grateful that he was not afraid of technology. Through our e-mails I was able to get to know him & his sense of humor. I will miss his cute, comical, military, and political e-mails. He was greatly loved and will be missed. Love, Lisa

Mary,
When your Dad and I were neighbors at the condos, he would always give me a toot and a wave when he drove by. Sometimes he would stop and give me updates on how you were doing. I'll alway remember his smile.

It was an honor to know Fred through the Iwo Jima Survivors Association. We stayed in touch over the years, even after his friend Jerry (my dad) passed away. Fred was a wonderful man and I'll miss him, his laugh, and his friendship. My sincere sympathy to Mary and family.
