Fred Rosenberg

So sorry to hear this sad news. I was an undergraduate student at Northeastern University (BS '91) and did my honors thesis project in his lab. To no one's surprise, I studied the microbes in the bottled water dispensers around campus. He was very intelligent and kind. He submitted my work to the ASM meeting in New Orleans in June 1992 and it enabled me to attend my first scientific conference and present a poster on my research. As I read some of his old Micro texts, generously given me by his daughter Alysa, I am saddened again in an intellectual way this time- What do you think about termites now Fred? Salmonella? RNA vaccines? I would be enlightened, challenged and laughing at his responses. Ah well....

Very saddened. I'm so sorry. Greatly influenced my path in life. Fred was a mentor and a friend. Last I saw him in 2004 with his beloved Liane at our home in Salem. We stayed in touch and he always made me smile with his one-liners and puns. Active, kind and young at heart to the end. May he Rest In Peace, much love Peter & Liz

A long time (ago) colleague and still a friend and admirer, sharer of jokes, political items, environmental thoughts, poetry, it makes me a bit teary. At my age there are few; it makes me feel like an orphan.
