SALEM, Fred A. - Of Flushing, age 79, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at McLaren Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Monday, March 10, 2008 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, The Very Reverend Father Joseph Abud officiating. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8PM Sunday and 10AM Monday until the time of the service at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Trisagion Service will be held at 7PM Sunday followed by a Memorial Service conducted by the Flint Lodge No. 23, F.&A.M. at the funeral home. Burial in Gracelawn Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Shriners Hospitals for Children or charity of one's choice. Fred was born in Flint, Michigan on December 4, 1928. He married Cynthia Riopelle on February 14, 1987 in Flint. Mr. Salem was a member of Flint Lodge No. 23, F.&A.M. and was a member of "100 Club Of Flint". He was past owner of Salem Lincoln-Mercury. He owned and operated Wizardland Amusement. Mr. Salem was an Honorary Chairman of the Board of Mt. Morris Township. Surviving are wife, Cynthia; children, Sam and wife Paula of Flushing, Karen and husband John Crowl of Flint, Daniel of Flushing and their mother Joann Salem of Flushing; daughter, Katie Salem of Chicago; grandchildren, John John and wife Lanell Crowl of Flushing, Tammy Crowl of Flint, Kira Salem of Chicago, Matt Salem Tyler Salem, Amanda Salem, Nicholas Salem and Jacob Salem, all of Flushing; sisters, Ann and husband George Hoodhood of Grand Rapids, Angie and husband Don Nixon of Traverse City; special friend, Larry Stecco of Flushing and Jimmy Daniels; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by parents, Sam and Sadie; brother, Harry; sisters, Lourice and Louise. Your condolences may be shared with the family at swartzfuneralhomeinc.com

I was his great grand son sadly he died before I could meet him but me seeing his success and looking him up from all the stories I have heard he seems like a good man that I never got to meet

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE SALEM FAMILY. WE WILL MISS HIM DEARLY. HE ALWAYS WAS DOIN THE RIGHT THING FOR MT MORRIS TOWNSHIP PARTYS. WILL MISS THE FIREWORKS. A GOOD FRIEND.

Mr. Salem loved my uncle Floyd Fielder. He would always stop and talk to me about the good old days of the Golden Gloves. Now they are with our heavenly Father together.
