Fred Sprague

I grew up with Patrick & Fred Jr. on Fisher Ave. Always remember when Fred Sr. Was in charge of Vacation Day Camp at PS1 during the summers. RIP Mr. Sprague. Lost contact over the years and sad to read my friend Patrick (Fred´s Son) is also deceased

Mr. Sprague was my 4th grade teacher. He was a gifted teacher who was patient, kind and wonderful with his students. Thanks to him I developed a love for reading and for stamp collecting. May he rest in peace.

Fred got me playing softball in the Summer of 1955 at P.S. 1 in Tottenville. He got my name in the SI Advance after we played a team from P.S. 41 in New Dorp. As an 8 yr. old that was pretty special. Thanks to Fred, I’m still playing softball at the age of 74. A nice man, & a good coach who was very patient with the players & kids he helped to develop. RIP Fred, I will never forget you.

Very fortunate to have had Mr Sprague as a teacher at PS8 in the 70s. He introduced me to stamp collecting, a passion I still have today. I think of him often and wish I had tried to find him to thank him sooner.

Mr. Sprague was my teacher at P.S. 8. He was a wonderful kind person who gave me a love for stamp collecting.

Mr. Sprague was my teacher 50 years ago. One of my favorites. Looks like he led a wonderful life.
