EAST PEORIA—Fred Traub, 101, of East Peoria, passed away at 7:16 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Independence Village in Peoria. Born November 23, 1910 in Vorderbuchelburg, Wittenberg, Germany, a son of Fred and Kathryn Deininger Traub, Fred married Pauline Reichert March 4, 1936 in Eureka. She died July 27, 2010 in East Peoria. Also preceding him in death were one granddaughter, Cindy Pennycuff; two brothers and four sisters. Surviving are one son Fred W. (Charlene) Traub of Mapleton; one daughter, Phyllis (George) Holliday of Hanna City; three granddaughters, Lorie Seppelt, Lisa Shantz, Katherine Puterbaugh and seven great-grandchildren. He was a WW II Navy veteran. Fred owned and operated Traub's Market for 27 years. He was a meat cutter for Raber Packing Company and worked for Traub Realty in Chillicothe. Fred was member of Schiller Lodge 335 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria and the Mohammed Shrine where he was active in the Oriental Band and the Legion of Honor. He was a member of the German American Society and a former member of the Monroe Grade School Board. Fred was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, 6614 W. Smithville Rd, Bartonville, Illinois where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012. Pastor Michael Jones will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria and one hour before services Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, OSF Hospice or Shriner's Hospital for Children.
