Fred S. Van Horn, 93, of Bangor, PA, passed away Friday, May 9th, at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem, PA. Born: Fred was born in High Bridge, NJ on August 3, 1920, a son of the late Wilfred and Margaret (Thomas) Van Horn. Personal: He was the husband of Gladys M. (Pysher) Alleger Van Horn, they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary last December. Fred was last employed as an assembler at the former Bear Automotive in Bangor, PA, until retiring in 1982. Prior to that, Fred worked as a slater for the former North Bangor Slate Co. He served in the US Army during WW II. Fred was an avid outdoors man, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and going on vacations with his family. Memberships: He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Martins Creek, PA. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Gladys, Fred is survived by one son, Larry Van Horn and his wife Marion, of Mt. Bethel, PA, 2 grandchildren Jennifer Hartzell and her husband Bryan and Aaron Van Horn, three great grandchildren Kaylee, Kara, and Jared Hartzell, and many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Services: Funeral services will be held at the James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, 314 S. First Street, Bangor, PA, at 10 AM on Wednesday, May 14th, with Rev. Louise Williams officiating. Friends are invited to call Tuesday evening from 6 -8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Reformed Cemetery, Stone Church, PA. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Hospice 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Suite 200 Bethlehem,, PA 18017.
