One adventure he was lucky to have survived. Fred teamed up with a group from a fortune magazine and they went to South America to dredge riverbeds for gold. They did find a small amount of gold, but when they tried to leave the country to return home the army or authorities confiscated their gold. He returned home empty handed, but an experience he never forgot
