Not sure what to say?

I knew Fred Wood as a teacher, dorm parent, and lacrosse coach during four years at BDH. He was always prepared. Mr. Wood's emphasis on learning the material, and how it could be used, let me develop an ardent sense of fairness from the luxury of knowing what to expect. He introduced high school lacrosse to the northwest in 1966 and should be so acknowledged.

I am so sorry that I did not hear of this faster. My sympathy to Fred's family. Our yearbook - class of 1973 - was dedicated to Fred. He showed tremendous patience and empathy toward me senior year, when my mom was in a car accident that left her in a coma and brain-damaged. He was more than a good teacher, but a great inspiration.

I remember Fred as US Head during my first years at OES. I taught with his wife and remember Nathan from fourth grade. My condolences to all.

Very sorry to hear of Freds passing. He was my principle at OES 1972-75. I will always remember his guidance and leadership, especially for the boarding students. He inspired me to pursue History as my major. Fred stood by me during both my successes and challenges, for which I will always be grateful. My sincere condolances to the family. He will be missed by many.

Fred was our neighbor for a number of years on SW 63rd in Portland. We built a house in an adjoining lot behind his home. We didn't have to talk across the fence, because there was none. Love talking with Fred -- politics, politics, and politics. We've missed having him as a neighbor for many years.

Fred was a great teacher, mentor and friend. I met him as my history teacher in high school at BDH and later he was instrumental in hiring me to teach at OES. He made a positive impact on so many with his intellect, humor and compassion. I extend my deep condolences to his family.

WHEN I JOINED THE OES STAFF, IN 1973, FRED WAS MY TEACHING MENTOR. WE SHARED SPORTS, HISTORY, THE WILDERNESS, AND FISHING. HE WAS AN OLD SCHOOL TEACHER WHO CONTINUALLY GAVE TO THE GROWTH OF THE WHOLE STUDENT. I WILL HEAR HIS VOICE LONG AFTER HIS PASSING. Sam Dibbins portland

My condolences to the Wood Family. I met Fred in 1969 when I attended boarding school at OES. He was a thundering leader, and he taught me lacrosse and US history. He was tough but fair, loved to purposely mispronounce my name, and really touched my life. God Bless him and family.

Last spring we were able to spend some time with Fred&Tanis, they were our neighbors for a few years and we valued their friendship. We're so glad we had the time with Fred,we will miss him very much. Our prayers are with the family.
