Ronnie, I´ll think of you and Freddie all day on August 5. I lost Jim last November and "special" days are incredibly hard days. Oh, for the good ol´ days!

I did not know Freddie well, but all I knew was good. He and his beautiful wife Ronnie made the perfect couple—a gentleman and his lady.

Freddie Johnson was the second man I met when I came to UF in 1984 to attend graduate school, he was coming down the stairs in Newell Hall and Dr. David Teem introduced me to him in the second floor stairwell. I later made the decision to attend UF to work on my PhD and shortly after I did Dr. Teem made the decision to move to Auburn to become a Dean. I was sort of left in Limbo with a major professor in Gainesville but several stepped up to help me. I soon assumed the extension weed science...

I knew Freddie from the Entomology and Nematologoy Department. If ever there was a true southern gentleman, it was Freddie Johnson. His laugh and smile and gentle humor will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
