WEST SPRINGFIELD
Frederick W. Baker, 66, of Forest Ridge Road, died peacefully at home Monday. Fred was born in Springfield and has lived in West Springfield all his life, graduating from West Springfield High School in 1965. He owned and operated Irma's Flower Shop retiring in 2006 and previously worked at Smith & Wesson for 18 years. Fred was a member of the Air National Guard stationed out of Barnes airport, where he obtained the rank of sergeant. He was an avid bowler and Red Sox fan. He had a zest for life which he shared with his family and friends. To spend a minute with Fred was sure to bring a smile to your face. He lived his life to its fullest. He had a way of making everyone feel extremely comfortable right away and greeted everyone he met with a smile. His wife and best friend, Marlene L. (Carabetta) died after a lengthy battle with cancer in 2006. Fred never left her side and was heartbroken by her loss. Besides his wife, Fred was predeceased by a sister Mary Ann and his mother Helen and father Frederick. Fred was also heart broken by the loss of Stella Carabetta his beloved mother-in-law, who he considered a second mother. He leaves a daughter Darcy Andre and her husband Chad of West Springfield; a son Frederick W. Baker Jr. and his wife Debra of Springfield; five grandchildren Dominico, Vincenzo, Emily, Abby and Molly and a sister-in-law Janice Carabetta. He also leaves many wonderful nieces and nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind many wonderful friends and coworkers that truly made his life special. He will be especially missed by his dear friends Bob and his wife, Ilda Andrews. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday at 11:00am with private burial at the convenience of the family. The Baker Children..I was very saddened to read today of your Father's passing.I have many fond memories of both of your Mom and Dad.I was his mailman at Irmas for years, and we went to a lot of games together. He treated my son as if he was his.I will truly miss him terribly.My deepest condolences to you both

Having known Freddie since we were in kindergarten together, I will always remember him as a kind and gentle person who always had a smile on his face...a truly beautiful soul.
