Not sure what to say?

It was an honor to serve with Gene on the Diaconate at Trinity. He always had a cheerful disposition, and nack for listening and a workable solution for everything. His love for us and others were always evident. His love for Jesus was even greater. I will miss him.

Gene was a wonderful neighbor and person, and the neighborhood's loss of this extraordinary man is huge. Our heavy hearts are with Lori and the family.

When I was at the University of Virginia, I was in between places to live. My basement apartment had flooded from the rains and I was ankle deep in water. Lori (my uncle's sister) and Gene opened their home to me at a distressful time in my life until I was able to relocate. Gene Butler was a kind and I must say had a good sense of humor. I have been forever grateful for his and Lori's kind generosity and love during a difficult time. Thank you Gene. My love and prayers to you, Lori, during...

Gene was always so kind to me especially after I returned from overseas- he blessed me with his cheerful encouragement and jokes. Thank you for your service to us and to the Lord.

I attended church with Gene and he was a man I highly admired. I will remember Gene as a servant leader and a man who embodied the fruits of the Spirit. He will be deeply missed.

Gene became more than just a good customer, he became a good friend. A friend that I could share my life with. I shared our plans about becoming missionaries in Mexico and he and Lori were both very supportive. They prayed for us and encouraged us. It was a pleasure working with Gene and talking about life...

Former working companion at GE. Rest in peace

I worked with Gene when I came over from the Replacement Hospital Project. He had the cubic near my desk. We were both from NC and talk a great deal about Asheville and the surrounding areas. He always had the biggest smile and he was kind to everyone. I will miss that the most. He is in a better place. May God bless his family in this time of sorrow.

I knew Gene and his smiling face but he didn't know me.
I attended Gene's church for many years as a single mom who didn't quite fit in and where I didn't know many people.
Most Sundays, Gene greeted me at the front doors with a big smile on his face, a big name tag on his chest and with a big outstretched hand. Many times, he was the only person to speak to me or who even knew I was there. I wish I could tell him how much that meant to me and because of him, I didn't feel...
