Not sure what to say?

Fred was a brilliant man. I am privileged to have known his son, Mark. We were friends growing up in Chicopee, on Moutainview St. I met Fred many times. Fred was intellectually engaging. Mark inherited his brilliance from Fred. Mark was the smartest person I knew in High School. Fred painted my mother's house in Chicopee. Fred was also best friends with my sister-in-laws family in Chicopee. They lived on Irene St. Small world connection. Sue (RIP) and family also loved Fred....

Fred was a man of knowledge and wisdom and honor. He made new friends easily. Anyone asking a question of history, always knowing the answer of some obscure fact, nobody else knows, but he would know it. He had a certain charm that worked on everybody he will be sorely missed. He loved his family. He was truthful and honest. And well respected, he worked hard his whole life. He was just amazing. He will be sorely missed by all.

I graduated from Chicopee High in 1963. Mr Checkwicz was my history teacher in my sophomore year. He was the best teacher I ever had. I remember to this day a lesson he gave us about communism and He shaped the way I think. I and many of his students have been effected to this day. Thank you Mr. C. you have been long been remembered and treasured. To his family I offer my condolences. He lived a wonderful life that impacted many. Treasure his memory Marsha Bressem

Great teacher! RIP Mr. Checkwicz. My condolences to his family.

A Teacher, I never forgot..his classes, always enjoyable and informing...not to many classes I would rush to..but I always hoped to catch him early, with a question or comment about daily events...always a pleasure!..He once mention, for the whole classes enjoyment, that my head was chock full of useless information!...I would meet him many times while I was working in Longmeadow..he developed a great word of mouth Painting business!..Rest easy, Mr.Checkwicz!

My sincere sympathies to his family. Fred was a terrific high school World History teacher at Chicopee Comp back in the late 60's. He pushed us hard and made us work and we really appreciated him. I once took a phone call from him while I was temporarily working after college at Home Depot. He was more interested in me than in the paint he was looking for. He was always interested in his students! I really appreciated him. As Mr. Desmarais, my U.S. History teacher and Freshman football...

Our friendship goes way back to l959 and has never wavered over the years with regular communications involving teaching, painting, reminiscing and expressing some very deep feelings for one another. He was a great teacher, a true and beautiful friend whom I will miss in the days to come. He was one in a million.

We enjoyed working with Fred at CHS where he was highly respected by students and faculty. He painted our home, and was a good friend. Our sincere condolences to his family, including his Fl nephew and his wife whom Fred brought with him to visit us in Florida.

Mark, Our sympathies to you and your family Pete,Jim,and Luis(Allied)
