I will never forget Fred Haag. Back in 1970 or, he was the guest conductor for the Southern All County Chorus. One of our selections was "This Guy's in Love With You" popularized in that era by Herb Alpert. We were practicing, singing along as usual when he stopped us. He wanted us to feel the meaning of the words. 'Just think of the guy or girl that you have a crush on. Sing like you are singing to them'. Fred was my teacher for 10+ NYSUT grad courses. I always picked "Fred" classes because his enthusiasm was infectious. So was his love for his friends, and Fred considered all of us his friends, and he was ours. I'll always remember his kind words, worldly advice, and love of McDonald's sausage burritos. Rest in peace, Fred. You deserve it, my friend.

I met Fred at Maple Downs where I led an informal weekly, worship service. I didn't know anything about his music or religious background, but he loved the hymn singing we did. He was upset when he couldn't sing very well, but he always enjoyed attending. The last couple of months I would stop by to remind him about the service. He always appreciated that. My condolences to the Haag family. I was fortunate to be Eric´s 5th grade teacher at Pitcher Hill Elementary . Fred, his father , always supported the activities in my classroom. . He was an amazing teacher at Cicero High School . God Bless Fred Haag.
