Not sure what to say?

I did not know Fred well, but he wrote several stories about books I've written, and I always found him to be a true pro -- he asked probing questions, he was an excellent listener, and his stories were accurate and well-written. He was one of those rare people who possessed both great intellect and great humility. My condolences to his entire family, whom I hope can take solace that Fred worked at something he loved and did it with grace and dignity.

I first met Fred at a Guild Convention in the early 2000's. We were seated in the back of the hall in a tight space. No one could get up to shake hands as I approached the table. At some point it was announced he won an award & rose to walk to the microphone for his acceptance speech. As he stood up he just kept growing... 6'... 6' 2"..6' 3"...6'4".....and then some! He accepted the microphone to say a few words. All of a sudden this deep professional D.J. voice came out of...

I speculate I am one of hundreds of Northeastern students who remember Fred from our co-ops at The Patriot Ledger. Thank you for showing us how it´s done.

Fred and I graduated Xaverian high, class of 74. I lived around corner from him. We rode bus together. Fred was ahead of his time. Brilliant, heart of gold. Huge knack for politics even then, he had a way of sizing up politicians and their impact. Wise beyond his years. He will be missed by all. Condolences to Fred's family n friends God bless ya Fred!! Heaven got another angel.

To Our Dear Friend Reggie , So Sorry to hear of Your Brother Fred s Passing . Our condolences and Prayers to You and Your Family . Rest In Peace Fred Sincerely, Kathy , Mary , Toni , Genna , Patty

I guess we´ll have to have that much discussed cold beer, when we meet again, in heaven, where you´ll be regaling folks with great humor, listening to one of your favorite bands and reading some 1,200 page tome, all at once. Love you Brudda Fred. Rest easy. Job very well done !

My heart goes out to the Hanson clan. I wish I could be there as you celebrate his life later this week. Hugs all around. Alison Cromer

To the Hanson Family: I was so sad to hear about Fred's passing. I only met Fred once when he picked up a gift certificate for his mother, Nancy, at my local yarn store. We had a lively exchange! To Nancy, Chris, and the many Hanson "kids" I've come to know over the years, please accept my sincere condolences. Certainly, Fred's legacy will live on through his many published and unpublished works.

Sad to hear that Fred has passed, will miss him at Hanson family gatherings. He had a great sense of humor and was someone that I was always interested in his opinion on current events. Of all the years I knew Fred, two memories persist, one representing his wide range of interests and knowledge, the other, his love of family. Fred was a fan of soul music and knew a lot about it. Years ago he talked about the song "Patches" by Clarence Carter, what a great song it was. It had to be a...
