Not sure what to say?

I coached the Shaker Heights High School hockey team in the early 70's. Fred's and my teams were rivals, but I respected his dedication to the sport and the kids. The league existed in good part to Fred's contributions over the years. Many Cleveland hockey players have Fred to thank for their chance to play high school hockey. RIP Fred.

Mr. Heyer was my social studies teacher and hockey coach. He held students and players to the highest standards in everything we did while treating everyone fairly. Coach Heyer gave me a chance to play hockey at Benedictine High School even though I had never played the game in an organized league. Coach Heyer's leadership, tutelage and life philosophy tremendously affected my growth as a student, a hockey player and a Man of Benedictine. The lessons he taught in the classroom and on the ice...

My condolences to the Heyer family during this time. As I remember during my tenure at Benedictine, Mr. Heyer seem to treat the changing demographics of the school in a fair, disciplinary, respectful matter. He was never overbearing and was willing to listen with sometimes a sense of humor as he held the title "Dean of Men" during that time. Rest in peace.

Ohio has lost a great man, both in life and is sports. We officials are all poorer this day. RIP sir.

Fred was one of my officiating mentors. I don't recall exactly when I met him, but almost immediately he was one of a very small group of people by whom I measured my actions-- both as an official and human being.
I'm a better man and official for his hand on my life. I'm sure I'm not alone in this sentiment.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Fred helped me get back into officiating when I came back to Cleveland. Thank you, Fred, and I am glad to read of your service to Benedictine and Mount Carmel.

Deepest Condolences and Sympathy to the Heyer Family. Fred was my assigner for many volleyball and track/field meets. I appreciate his thoughtfulness of Always including me in the Arbiter assignments.I’ve learned so much from Fred.(Pole Vault-yes@Willoughby).I enjoyed Fred’s conversations and always looked forward to attending the local NEOVBOA meetings.Fred was A FAIR, FUNNY, FRIENDLY AND FAITHFUL INDIVIDUAL! He will be truly missed at the volleyball and track officials meetings.God Bless You!

Fred was a grandpa like figure to many of us at ArbiterSports in Sandy Utah, and especially to the Evanses. He had been a user of our referee assignment software for over 20 years. His gentle personality and quick wit made him a favorite of everyone that spent time with him. We were fortunate to eat breakfast with him at every National Association of Sports Officials Summit for around 15 years. It was highlight of our year each time. God Bless you, Fred!
