Well, I just learned of his passing from a friend. I am so sorry. My sincerest condolences to his family. He was such a great man to work with when I did safety and DARE. I will always remember that smile when I would walk into his office at Mapleshade School and he cetainly made it easier for a young office to work there. Certainly a great loss.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Fred's passing. Little did I know that when I walked into a 6th grade classroom at Birchland Park School in September 1962 what a profound influence one man would have on my life. Not only was he the best teacher that I ever had, bar none, but he later became a friend and through the years, although separated by time and life's circumstances, as an adult I have felt his presence as a mentor. I was so very saddened to hear of Mr. Lafayette's passing. He was my Principal in East Longmeadow. My thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences go out to all of his beautiful family and friends. Again, i am so very sorry. Jack Evans

My condolences to all of Mr Lafayette´s family. He was my lifeline in 6th grade at Birchland Park School during the 1964-65 school year. I immigrated from Canada with my family not knowing one word of English so I was put in his class as he understood French and could communicate with me very well. I am now going to be 70 years old this year and I must admit having a sadness that actually made a tear flow down my face. I loved him; he was an amazing educator and a pillar in our town...

Loyal family man. Passionate educator and administrator. Understood that being a leader often meant you stood next to your team to let them function. His handshake was his word.
