Still it is hard to believe he is gone.
I met him first as a musician playing his charts in the '70s in the Chicago area, then of all things, 30+ years later he moved with Freda to FL within a half hour of me. Joy! What an accomplished musician, I admired so, and he was a friend. I was lucky to know him. RIP, Fred. I know you are writing charts wherever you are!

I would like to extend my condolences to the family of Fred W Marentic, on behalf of all of his former students at Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, NJ. Mr. Marentic was only with us for a short period near the beginning of his teaching career, but he had a positive and lasting influence on his students and band members. Among other accomplishments, he organized the Mainland Jazz Octette and took us to compete at the Villanova Jazz Festival (Philadelphia) in 1966, which was a first...

Sorry to hear about the passing of Fred. He was a joy to talk with and always had interesting stories to tell. Fred will be greatly missed by all.
