Fred was a 1943 National Honor Society graduate of Johnstown, NY High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the Navy V-S flight training program at the University of South Carolina for one year, then continued to the Navy V-12 deck officer-training program at the University of California, Berkeley. In June of 1946 he graduated with a BSME degree in mechanical engineering and was commissioned as an Ensign in the USNR. He married Blandine I. Robbins in 1952. Fred worked for the General Electric Co. as a test engineer and service engineer from 1946 to 1953, working on Alco-GE diesel locomotives at the Boston and Albany yards in West Springfield and various industrial facilities in the Western MA area. After leaving GE in 1953, he was employed by the Monsanto Co. in various engineering, supervisory and technical positions, retiring in 1982 as an engineering specialist with 29 plus years of service. He was a member of the West Springfield United Methodist Church (formerly Mittineague United Methodist Church) for many years serving on various boards and as Church Treasurer from 1982 to 1991. He was a long-time member and past secretary of the Western Massachusetts Model-A Ford Restorer's Club. During retirement he enjoyed repairing and refinishing antique chairs and was self-taught in the art of chair caning. His wife, Blandine (Robbins), predeceased him in August 2008. He is survived by his son, Glenn and his wife, Donna, of Abbeville, MS; a daughter, Linda of East Peoria, IL; a sister, Edna L. Not sure what to say?

May he rest in eternal peace, never forget the ones we meet in our lives , a real gentleman

Glenn and Linda. I am so sorry for your loss. And I am so sorry that I didn't find his obituary until today (01 May 2025). My good fortune was that your Dad was my first boss when I joined Monsanto in Dec 1967. He was my boss for 6 or 7 years, when we both moved on to other jobs. I learned a lot about engineering from him and was so lucky to have such a kind guy as a boss. In one of his last projects before he retired, he and I both worked together on a fast track, pilot plant project. ...

Rest in Peace Grandpa. You will be sadly missed.

Linda & family, I am so sorry to learn of your Dad's passing - he always had a smile and welcoming to me. As well as your Mom. They are together now watching over you, Glen and your family.

I didn't get to see him very often, but we stayed in touch by mail, and he would often include a newspaper article or two that he thought I would like. When we visited, I always remember him as being kind, thoughtful, and carrying a warm smile.
He will be missed!

Jim and I were so blessed to have such a kind and sweet neighbor.
GOD bless you and your family.

Fred was my first supervisor at Monsanto when I got out of college. He set the standard for my business career for my lifetime. Always enjoyed waving to him when he was in the East Longmeadow July parade over the years in his antique car Bob Maccarini
