Not sure what to say?

I got married just before joining Fred's lab as a post doc. My wife still remembers his kindness and gentle hospitality when he threw a party at his Ann Arbor home when I told her of his passing anniversary. The nicest man I have ever known.

He was a great scientist, teacher, and as an active member of the Union of Concerned Scientists, he would be appalled to see how science has been dismissed as fake news from public health to global warming. He embraced humanity and treated everyone equally regardless of gender and race and would be appalled to see the rise of ugly heads of systemic racism. His wisdom is missed at this time of upheaval.

Fred was the best boss, mentor and a friend when I did my post doc under him. His wisdom and wit, compassion and thoughtfulness for ever imprinted on me. During winter months he used to take the same bus that I rode to work and I still treasure our chats on science mostly and family. Rest In Peace, Fred

Dr. Neidhardt taught me in medical school more than thirty years ago. I appreciated his wisdom and thoughtfulness.

We knew Fred and Geri from our ethnic eating group. Fred was kind, interesting, thoughtful and enthusiastic. We greatly respected his social activism. We will always remember him with great fondness.
