Frederick D. Nielsen passed away peacefully, with a few of his many friends and family around him, on June 29. Although Fred was born (Oct 6, 1937) in Creston, Iowa, and raised in the similarly-small town of Cherryvale, in southeastern Kansas, that origin belied the man-of-the-world he would...

Not sure what to say?

My name is Frederick Pratt Nielson. I was born in May 1937 so am about 3 months older. I would have been pleased to meet this fellow.

You will always be remembered with love and appreciation Fred

As I sit down to write, my heart is heavy with the loss but also full of gratitude and fond memories of the times we´ve shared together. You were more than just my dad's friend to me; you were a mentor, a guide, and a cherished member of our family. I remember all the times you took us basketball game, went to our sporting events and helped us with various projects. Your willingness to share your knowledge and time was invaluable. You were always a constant "how-to" resource in my life,...

Fred was a good human and had an awesome sense of humor. He was generous with his time if his friends or family needed him for anything. In addition to sports, he also had an interest in cars and affordable repair shops, and helped me sell my used car a few years ago. He was a kind and generous uncle to me and my family and cousins. He will be greatly missed.

Fred was like an uncle to my brothers and I. He hung out with the family, went to watch our various sporting events, took us out to try new BBQ joints, and brought some us to Georgia Tech BBall games. He was always interested in both how we were doing and what we were doing. I feel grateful to have seen him last year at Josh's wedding and this past Winter while visiting in Atlanta. I feel very lucky that he was a part of my life, and I will miss him quite a lot.
