Frederick Olsen Obituary

Frederick Francis Olsen, Jr., passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017, at the age of 87. He was the son of the late Frederick Francis Olsen, Sr., and late Irene Johnson Olsen Wappler. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Josie Triana Olsen and two children; Carolyn Olsen Altobello (John Jr.) and Frederick F. Olsen III, and three grandsons; John J. Altobello III, Christopher M. Altobello (Lauren) and Michael J. Altobello. He is also survived by his sister, Claire Olsen Reilly and two nieces, Vicki Caronna Occhipinti and Kellie Reilly. He retired from the law firm of Berrigan Litchfield Olsen Schonekas and Mann in 1997, after twenty years of service. He graduated from Tulane University in 1955 with a B.A. degree in psychology and from the Loyola Law School in 1977. Before entering the practice of law, he served as personnel director of two local firms. He was elected president of the Personnel Management Association of New Orleans in 1970. He worked for several years as a volunteer for then-United Fund in the 1960's. From 1955 to 1958, he was employed as training manager of Hardware Mutual Insurance Companies. While employed at Hardware Mutual, he taught English at Spencer Business College at night and in 1958 he taught business communications in the then-Evening Division of Tulane University, He served ten years as president of AARP Chapter #4090 and did volunteer work for St. Philip Neri Catholic Church for several years before his death. For his efforts, he was awarded the Order of St. Louis Medal by the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 2015. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 6500 Kawanee Ave. in Metairie. josie, my brother ray johnson told my sister rosemary and me, patricia about your loss. people lose touch so easy. i think about family all the time. freddy and claire are my godparents. i still remember christmas parties at your house on pratt drive. much love, patricia johnson demary

I loved my uncle Fred more than words can express. I miss him terribly. May we his family and friends take comfort in the words of St Paul, "For we know that if our earthly dwelling should be destroyed, we have a building from God, a dwelling not made with hands, eternal in heaven."

MR. FRED and JOSIE are friends of mine from 4PM vigil mass at St. PHILIP. Vicki let me know of his passing and I tap the pew were they sit each week because I always stopped to say hello. May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You To We Meet again. May GOD Bless.
