Frederick A. Ott, age 87, a lifetime area resident of Sturgis, MI passed away peacefully, on Friday, November 2, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 13, 1920 on a farm in Sherman Twp., MI a son to the late Henry & Katie (Webber) Ott.

On Dec. 26, 1946 in Angola, IN he married Jessie Houts.

Frederick was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII with the Co. “B” 42nd Tank Battalion. He was honorably discharged after 5 years of service for wounds received during battle and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

He had been employed at Wade Electric for many years and retired from Taylor Products in Elkhart, IN.

He was a life member of the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post #1355, the D.A.V., Jack Johnston Chapter #88, and he enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are his wife: Jessie; 1 daughter: Janice Ott of Sturgis, MI; 4 sons: Alan (Marilyn) Ott of LaGrange, IN, Melvin Ott of Dowagiac, MI, John (Ann) Ott of Barnwell, S.C., and David Ott of Winston Salem, N.C. 11 grandchildren, 5 Great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother: William Ott, and 1 sister: Ellie Stuby.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home in Sturgis. A religious service celebrating Frederick’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. James Bender, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery with full military rites conferred by the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post #1355. Memorial donations may be directed to D.A.V. Jack Johnson Chapter #88 or the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post #1355, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
