Not sure what to say?

Professor Way was the first to offer me a paid computer programming position in 1966. It was a great experience for me and decades later I am still doing it.

Although I never took any of the classes he taught, his reputation as a professor was strong. Attributed to him was the statement that to be successful in engineering one only had three rules: (1) F=ma, (2) know the answer to the problem, and (3) don't push on a rope.

He is missed.

Professor Freddy Way was one of the most inspirational teachers I had at CIT, for Numerical Methods I & II, in 1973/1974.

I taught my daughters Freddy's method to remember the difference between rows and columns - "You take a penny out of your pocket, and on the back of that penny is a building, and that building has columns." Of course knowing that, you never have to actually look at the penny :-)

He gave us an exam in Strosacker once, after someone had fiddled with the...

I took Numerical Methods I and II from Professor Way, and then later on, he was my senior project advisor -- back during the 1980's.
My spouse also took courses from Professor Way and one of his courses was what inspired my spouse to continue on to grad school at Case in operations research. To this day my spouse still programs in APL at work - 25+ years later! In fact, any new laptop or computer he buys, must have the ability to run APL in DOS otherwise, forget it! :) Freddie would be...

I am so sorry to hear of the passing Fred and Nell. Though I did not know them well, they were always a pleasure to be with. Nell was truly a sweetheart, always with a ready smile and a kind word. She had a wonderful sense of style and class, a beautifully strong lady.

When we arrived at Case in the late 60s Fred and Nell were there to welcome us to the community. Fred made a impact on his students, but also on the junior faculty who also have many Fred Way stories. Nell was instrumental in helping us make new friends in our new home. She was a gracious lady. They will be missed.

Fred was a great inspiration to me as a young faculty member starting out at Case in 1968. He was a living example of all that a faculty member could be to challenge and motivate his students.

Our most deepest condolences to the family. Will remember many good times with Fred coming to our club(Lorain Rifle Pistol),he was always so cheerful and so much fun. Prayers to you all.

We treasure our many memories with Fred and "Fred's Crew" at the Canton McKinley Club. He and Nellie will continue to share a special place in our hearts. Happy Trails to You until we meet again!

I owe my career in computing to the teaching skill of Fred Way. Although formally retired now, I continue the bit fiddling in the field of robotics. -- Dick Curtiss, Case '72 (delayed from '65)
