I believe e I might have sent...I was Fred´s chaplain´s asst when he came to fort Jackson on his first assignment. I have several rich and visual memories of our work among Jewish trainees ( most national guard and reserve) and the huge Sede r and Passover meal we put on for the generals and trainees just before Fred left for Vietnam. It was the last I saw or heard of him. I was shocked to learn the role of agent orange in his death. At fort Jackson I remember our simulated helicopter...

Once, in conversion class, I asked Rabbi Wenger " Rabbi, I don´t want you to think I´m crazy but" and I asked my question. Rabbi Wenger responded " Bob, if you´re not crazy you´re the only one in the room that isn´t"

In 1969-70, I was Fred´s chaplain´s assistant at fort Jackson, South Carolina. Together we served and supported Jewish draftees passing through basic training . After about 8 months Fred received orders for Vietnam. He organized a large and memorable Passover Seder before leaving. Our time working together was the last I saw or heard of Fred.

Rabbi Fred was a kind and thoughtful rabbi to our Anchorage congregation. Many trips to provide beautiful services. Thank you. Many blessings to your family.

Rabbi Wenger welcomed me to Kol Ami when I joined his congregation. We shared a love of books and I enjoyed chatting with him in the library or in his office. He was such a kind man; I will never forget him. May his memory be for a blessing.

Rabbi Wenger was my rabbi and friend. He was a kind and caring person. I am sad to hear he has passed and will forever have him in my heart. Rick Kirschenbaum

Such a beautiful person in every way. A very kind heart and a blessing for the Jewish Community, both locally and beyond. We will miss him greatly. May his memory always be a blessing.
